Old-time clawhammer banjo is a unique sound in American traditional music. Once you get the basic technique, it's pretty easy to make music, and play along with all kinds of songs. Having started from the very Scratch in the first session this year, Session II will continue on with simple tunes and exploration of tunings of the banjo from the old-time repetoire, reinforcement of the basic music theory that is useful for any instrument, in any genre, and drills that help you solidify your right hand technique. If you've got the bum-diddy and want to know tunes plus more skills for picking up tunes, this class is for you. (Minimum class size 6 students)

*Deering Good Tyme Banjos are available for rent for the session, or sale at a discounted price. Contact evie@evieladin.com if you are interested in renting or purchasing a banjo.

Evie Ladin grew up with traditional American music and dance, clogging and playing clawhammer banjo at music festivals all over the East Coast. For ten years she toured nationally with Rhythm In Shoes of Dayton, OH, performing and teaching tap dance, clogging, step dancing, and body percussion. Evie appears as a versatile dancer, musician and vocalist with her solo project; the all-gal old-time teardown The Stairwell Sisters; and in a variety of rhythm-based world music and dance ensembles with partner Keith Terry & Crosspulse. She is also prone to leading rowdy square dances for every age.
