Mbira music has been used by the Shona people of Zimbabwe in religious and secular ceremonies for over a millennium. The instrument, made of two dozen metal keys mounted on a wood soundboard inside a resonating calabash gourd and played with the thumbs, produces music that combines entrancing melodies with invigorating polyphony and polyrhythms.

Woody Guthrie," a one-man show of song and spoken word presented by singer-songwriter, historian, and infamous rockin' rabble-rouser, Country Joe McDonald. In tonight's performance, as well as on his soon-to-be released CD, Joe mixes classic Woody Guthrie songs, from "This Land is Your Land" to "Pastures of Plenty," with tales from Woody's life, snippets of his letters, and Joe's own musings about the folksinger's life and times.

2001 National Fingerstyle Champion Richard Smith has been performing in public ever since he took the stage at Her Majesty's Theatre in London for a duet with fingerstyle guitar legend Chet Atkins—at the tender age of 11. A couple of decades later, Richard continues to be quite a guitar phenomenon, with a repertoire that spans an incredible range of musical styles from country, bluegrass, mainstream jazz, and rock to classical guitar.
