The Berkeley High School jazz program is one of the finest in the country, known nationally and internationally as an incubator of outstanding talent and a citadel of swing. The Jazz Ensemble is the program’s flagship performing group and has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading high school big bands for the past 40 years. Some of the world’s great jazz artists have come through Berkeley High, from Joshua Redman to Charlie Hunter, Dave Ellis to Peter Apfelbaum. Tonight is a chance to see the next generation of rising stars shine at the Freight!

Rita CoolidgeRita Coolidge has been making great music since the 1960s. She started in Memphis, singing with Delaney & Bonnie, then teamed up with Joe Cocker on the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour, and went on to work with Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, and Stephen Stills, eventually signing with Herb Alpert and recording a string of solo albums, including the multi-platinum Anytime…Anywhere.
