The Todalo Shakers play vintage jug band party blues and old time rags & stomps which sound like they are lifted right out of 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee or Dallas, Texas. The band features lots of harmony singing, making for a rich palette of vocal blends and a great feeling of camaraderie; the exuberance and fondness that the musicians feel for their material and for each other is unmistakable.
If you’ve ever seen Greg Brown in concert, you remember the voice, the deep, sometimes gruff, sometimes tender, always compelling voice that might sing – or say – just about anything. And you remember the sense of humor, in the songs and between the songs, sometimes dark, sometimes irreverent, always perfectly Greg. The songs stick in your mind too. They’re memorable enough that Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Ani DiFranco, Joan Baez, Jack Johnson, and Mary Chapin Carpenter have all recorded his songs.
Singer, songwriter, and activist Noel Paul Stookey rose to prominence as the “Paul” in Peter, Paul & Mary, and has continued to spread his gospel of melding the spiritual to the practical in 45 albums over his illustrious career, including his most recent, One and Many, which ranges from romantic ballads to politically charged portraits to intimate meditations. The vocals, says folk critic Scott Alarik, “are strong and sweet, confidential even at peak emotion, as if singing only for you.
Mouths of Babes – that’s Ty Greenstein of Girlyman fame and Ingrid Elizabeth of Coyote Grace – brings together a tender tomboy and rough-and-tumble lady to make music that melts hearts and shakes souls with undeniable chemistry and unexpected wisdom. Their sound is equal parts celebration and blues, folk and soul, salve and anthem—an invitation to love this life, to sing your sob story and end it with a smile.

Versatile doesn’t begin to cover it, and neither does excellent. Jim Lauderdale is just so damn good at so many styles of music – maybe the word is masterful.
