Come join us for our Winter Community Open House!  Music fills the Freight from ceiling to roof as we throw open our doors from noon to 4:00 pm today for a free, family-friendly musical celebration featuring an array of performances and workshops which highlight the Freight’s amazing teaching staff and their students! Join in the fun & bring your posse for workshops, performances, & you jamming with your musical community. Workshops include Fiddle Repertoire by Erik Hoffman, Guitar Artistry for Folksingers with Sylvia Herold, Acoustic Rock Guitar with Gabe Olin, and Songwriting with Jim Bruno.

The afternoon also holds your chance to meet & greet photographer extraordinaire Mike Melnyk at our official Freight gallery exhibit opening. The Freight is proud to feature an ongoing and varying display of this talented man's work.

Workshops:

  • Erik Hoffman - Learn a Fiddle Tune or Two for All Instruments at 1 pm
  • Jim Bruno - Songwriting Workshop at 1 pm
  • Avram Siegel - Intro to Bluegrass Harmony Singing at 2 pm
  • Joe Miller - Music Theory for Guitarists and Other String Players at 2 pm
  • Michael Smolens - Making Your Performance Work at 2 pm
  • Shay Black - Folk Song Repertoire at 2 pm
  • Mark Lemaire - Using Standard Tuning Guitar to Get Open Tuning Sounds at 3 pm
  • Sylvia Herold - Guitar Artistry for Folksingers at 3 pm
  • Gabriel Olin - Acoustic Rock Guitar at 3:30 pm

Performance on the main stage:

  • 12:30: Jim Bruno's songwriting students
  • 1:15: The Harlan James band - from Ran Bush's slow jam classes
  • 2:00: Sylvia Herold
  • 3:00: Michael Smolens's Vocal Flight students
  • 4:00: Hiram Bell's ukulele students
