Graham ParkerAn incisive writer and riveting performer, Graham Parker brings his thought-provoking brand of British rock to the Freight stage for an unforgettable solo evening. Ranging across the vast territory of his 40-plus-year career Graham applies his familiar soulful, raspy voice to hits like "Don't Ask Me Questions," "Local Girls," and "Wake Up (Next to You)," as well as to numbers from his recent CD, Imaginary Television.

Emerging from England's pub-rock scene of the early 1970s, Graham fused a driving rock and roll sound with confessional folk rock-style lyrics. His raw onstage presence and passionate, class-conscious songs gained him a following, which broadened when he refined his style as the lead singer of the band Graham Parker & the Rumour, producing hit albums like Howlin' Wind (Mercury) and Squeezing Out Sparks (Arista). Always one for forging an independent path, Graham has explored a wide variety of musical styles through the years, and while his early punkish "angry young man" persona has mellowed considerably, his songs remain razor-sharp. Graham’s penchant for word-smithing extends to publishing short stories and novels, the most recent being the novel The Other Life Of Brian, from Thunder's Mouth Press.

Bay Area based singer and published songwriter Jim Bruno opens tonight’s show. Shawn Colvin, Chuck Prophet, Cliff Eberhardt, Mary Lou Lord, Thad Cockrell, and Laurie MacAllister have recorded songs he's written or co-written. He currently teaches songwriting at the Freight & Salvage and Foothill College in Los Altos, CA.
