Improvisation 101 for Violin w/ Paul Anastasio
Sunday, January 29, 1:00-2:15 pm Paul offers this description of the workshop: Joe Venuti said "You have to know chords." We'll tear apart a couple of simple swing tunes and break 'em down to their bare-bones chords. Then I'll show you a bunch of great ideas you can play over the basic chords. We'll discuss single, double, triple and quadruple neighboring tones, syncopation schemes, and the Venuti off-beat bowing. I'll give you all sheet music to 500 hot licks you can play over a G chord, then show you how to use these same licks over other chords. If you can read music, great. If you can't, come anyway and you'll still come away with a bunch of good ideas. Feel free to bring audio, video or whatever type of recording device you'd like. I'll see you there! Â
