Turn off your tv and find a new way to engage with your kids! This is how folks entertained themselves before tv and ipods: sitting around and playing music together. Bring your child and yourself and learn to play Klezmer music. Read, listen and learn Klezmer tunes from sheet music as well as listening to CD's and learning by ear and through improvisation. Musicians do not need to be excellent on their instruments but do need to know how to play. (Instruction will not include how to play specific instruments.) The ability to read music is helpful but not required.

Julie Egger has played the violin since the age of seven. As a teenager, she performed with the Long Island Youth Orchestra, which traveled all over the world, playing music. She received a Bachelor of Music in Education from Crane School of Music, where she studied with the Carnegie String Quartet and Ruth Iogha. Julie has performed with artists such as Stuart Brotman (of Brave Old World) in Finif and Joshua Horowitz of Veretski Pass. She currently performs with the Red Hot Chachkas, JJ@M and performs and records free lance in the Bay Area as well. She teaches Klezmer music as well as classical and jazz to students of all ages. She is also co-founder of KlezCalifornia, and received a 2003 individual Artist Grant and a 2007 Community Grant from Marin Arts Council to create a Yiddish Folk Festival in West Marin.
