The Jazzschool Studio Band, a 19 piece big band made up of the top high school players in the Bay Area and directed by esteemed arranger/composer/trombonist educator Dave Eshelman, features NYC saxophonist and bandleader Donny McCaslin playing Donny's original music for big band.

Originally from Santa Cruz, Donny McCaslin took up the saxophone at age 12 and was touring Europe by the time he finished high school. He went to New York after graduating from Berklee College of Music and became a sought-after soloist with large ensembles, receiving three Grammy nominations and releasing eleven albums. He and his quartet are also a central element of David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar. The Nation says, “The music he makes is ambitious but accessible, unapologetically the work of a person who grew up with rock on the radio. As an improviser, McCaslin is openly, robustly emotive, far more interested in expressing feeling than showing off his considerable technique."
