The Wilkie Family Singers provide the latest chapter in the saga of King Wilkie, a band that has made a career of continually reinventing itself. First founded as a hard-driving bluegrass band in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2003, the group picked up the International Bluegrass Music Association's coveted Emerging Artist of the Year award in 2004. But all the while, their music was evolving, drawing on pre-bluegrass American music and more contemporary influences. The group's respect for older musical forms is deep, but rather than preserving them to death King Wilkie injects the timeless themes of love won and lost, loneliness, spirituality, and death with a vibrant energy that electrifies the time-honored recipes, making them fresh and relevant.
