Mountain Dulcimer I w/ DJ Hamouris
Mountain Dulcimer is one of the easiest & most fulfilling instruments to play. Once it's tuned you can hardly make a mistake. And though it's beautiful with "high piney" tunes from the Appalachian Mountains, it also lends itself to more contemporary music like The Beatles & Leonard Cohen. In this class you learn 2 tunings, a couple of tunes per week, how to follow dulcimer tablature, some chords and strums to help you out with your musical pursuits. From there on you can probably find your own way, as this class aims to make you a resourceful player. Deborah Hamouris (DJ to her friends) is a musician and teacher with a long performance and recording history in the San Francisco Bay Area. Musically versatile, she performs as both a jazz vocalist and (on her mountain dulcimer) as a traditionally-influenced song smith. Deborah just released her latest CD, Snapshots, recorded with jazz guitarist Mimi Fox. With her husband, Buffalo, Deborah is about to return to the studio to record a collection of holiday songs. She teaches mtn. dulcimer at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley and leads the singing groups Women & Song and We Like to Sing, as well as teaching & coaching private students. In her spare time, and when the cat allows, she knits.
