A steel guitar extravaganza like no other in recent Freight memory, In the Steel of the Night features three of the world's leading steel guitar players and their hot bands. The Bobby Black Quartet, Big Lou's Dance Party featuring David Phillips, and Joe Goldmark and the Seducers raise the roof as they dole out twang galore... and you are invited!
International Steel Guitar Hall of Famer Bobby is a living legend. His talent for exuberantly blending country, swing, and rock has led to an impressive career, performing and/or recording with groups including Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, Asleep at the Wheel, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Barbara Mandrell, and The Moonlighters. Bobby’s group includes John Nichols (guitar and vocals), Eddie Kendrick (bass), and Ken Owens (drums) for a set of country swing and jazz.
Big Lou the accordion princess (Polkacide, Those Darn Accordions) continues to shake up the polka world with her unique blend of accordion, horns, and steel guitar. Steel guitarist extraordinaire David, along with bassist David Golia, Gene Reffkin on drums, Anna Lise Zamula on sax, Greg Stephens on trombone, and vocalist Kathleen Enright, join Lou for a wide-ranging set of tunes from Texas, France, Poland, Germany, and Hollywood. David, a Georgia native, is equally at home playing polkas or weepy country western tunes, with Lou and other artists including Tom Waits and Peter Rowan.
Celebrating the release of his new CD, The Wham Of That Steel Man! Joe continues his tradition of applying the steel guitar to high-energy reinterpretations of rock and soul music. His hot band, the Seducers, features bassist Eddie Kendrick, drummer Ken Owens, guitarist Hank Manniger, and soul singer Keta Bill.
As a special added treat, join Bobby and David in the lobby at 7:00 for a pre-show musical trip to Hawaii!
