With their heavenly harmonies, masterful guitar and flute, and a variety of traditional Mexican instruments like tres cubano, marimbol (related to the African thumb piano), guitarra de son, donkey's jaw bone, zapateado (footwork), cajon, and the indispensable maracas and claves, this group never fails to win hearts and set bodies in motion. Veering from whimsical playfulness to delicate beauty to searing emotion, the trio are masters at putting their own subtle touch on the music, creating a wonderfully lush, intimate atmosphere. Tonight, Arwen Lawrence de Castellanos and Sabra Webers's lush vocal harmonies and Jorge Liceaga's amazing guitar work is enhanced by master multi-instrumentalist Miguel Govea (accordion, guitarrón, and horns), the sweet tones of guitarist Rick Flores, the warm voice of Cynthia Holberg, and the old soul of young pianist Francisco Ortiz.
