Youth Rock w/ Corey Evans & Seth Affoumado

Wednesdays, 4:30 - 6:00 pm (8 weeks)

Youth Rock, organized by 17-year-old Corey Evans and professional musician and teacher Seth Affoumado, targets 20 East Bay middle school rockers interested in exploring electric guitar, electric bass, drums, or vocals. The first three weeks of class will focus on general instrumental skills such as reading tablature, hand technique, and rock history. The students will then be organized into bands of four to five based on experience level. Corey Evans, Seth Affoumado, and four additional high school/college student assistants will teach each band three or four classic rock songs. Classes will take place at the new Freight & Salvage. Teachers will also be available for private lessons. The class will end with a finale concert on the beautiful new Freight stage!

*All experience levels are welcome, including beginners. Drum sets will be supplied, however, guitarists and bassists are encouraged to bring their personal equipment. Those with their own equipment will get priority placement.

Corey Evans is a high school drummer of 8-years who hopes to impart her passion for rock music to the bay area youth community. She taught After School Rock Class in 2008 at Cornell Elementary School, Albany.

Bay Area singer/songwriter Seth Affoumado currently has a kids band class at The Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco, and a roots rock class for experienced teen musicians at the Freight. He is a founding member of bands Lovitt/Page, The Jakes, and PLAYDATE. Seth is a multi-talented musician who plays drums, piano, organ, guitar, and bass. His most recent project was with Rich Hoeg and David Fleminger, adding drums and vocals to a Bluegrass EP recorded at Decibel Studios in San Francisco.
